On the one hand, the federal government has submitted a request to Nepra to increase the basic tariff of K Electric, while another request to impose a quarterly adjustment of up to 4 rupees 45 paise on the citizens of Karachi has also been filed.
The Federal Government has sent the policy guidelines to Nepra to increase the price of electricity for the citizens of Karachi, in which it has been asked to increase by 46 paise per unit for the second quarter of 2022-23 and to keep the electricity tariff uniform across the country. Therefore, the base tier of K Electric should be increased.

The amount of tariff increase will be charged in September, October and November as adjustments for April, May and June 2023.
The petition further asked that Nepra issue a separate schedule of tariffs of K Electric for uniform prices, the fourth quarterly adjustment to be applied to K Electric customers like DISCOs.
Nepra will hear the federal government’s request on September 11.
