Discussing the matter in detail with senior journalists, Fazlur Rahman explained that multiple political parties, including MQM and Akhtar Mengal’s party, had come to a mutual agreement to push for immediate elections. However, the People’s Party (PPP) changed its stance at the last minute, opting not to support the decision for immediate elections, which disrupted the consensus.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader also touched upon the concept of interim governments. He made it clear that in truly democratic nations, the idea of a ‘supervisory’ or caretaker government doesn’t really exist. Such governments are usually not a part of the democratic process.
Fazlur Rahman also spoke about the PTI’s rise to power. He claimed that those who helped Imran Khan become the PTI chairman later admitted that their real intentions were different. According to him, PTI’s main objective was not to strengthen the country but to weaken it economically.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman highlighted the challenges of conducting election campaigns in the tribal areas of Pakistan. He believes that due to various factors, including security concerns and lack of infrastructure, carrying out a smooth election campaign in these regions would be a difficult task.
